2018 Silver Medallists
On Wednesday 28th March 2018, two teams of Solent hockey players arrived at Admiral Lord Nelson School, keen to put their weekly training to the test in a tournament against other Portsmouth Schools. For many players on the red team, this was their first tournament playing for Solent. They also had the tricky task of playing against pupils a few years older than them. They did themselves and Solent proud, showing skill, resilience, enthusiasm and teamwork. The team were delighted to win one of their matches, with superb goals from Amelia and Jessica. Miss Smith thinks this developing team has a bright future ahead of them and that this experience will pay off in the years to come.
Solent’s A team were delighted to be awarded silver medals, winning all but one of their matches against an incredibly talented Northern Parade team.
Portsmouth Schools’ Hockey Festival 2nd November 2017: Silver Medallists
Congratulations to Solent’s hockey team with their fantastic start to the new academic year. The team played exceptionally well, securing 5 wins and 1 draw. Their draw came against a team they’ve only beaten previously on goal difference and unfortunately it was at the end of 4 consecutive games played with no breaks. Solent were worn out and did well to achieve a draw!
At the end of their 6 matches, they waited nervously to find out if they had done enough to achieve gold, knowing it was likely to come down to goal difference yet again!
Solent wait nervously to find out the results!
This time, luck did not go Solent’s way and they narrowly missed out on gold medals, needing another 4 goals to equal Northern Parade’s impressive score sheet. However, Solent should be delighted with their silver medals; several of the players had never played competitively before! All the players did the school proud with their skill and sporting attitude. We now look forward to playing in the league and hope we can build on an impressive start to the season.
Portsmouth Schools’ Hockey Tournament 22nd March 2017: Gold Medal Winners!
Congratulations to Solent Junior School’s hockey players who performed superbly well in the Portsmouth Schools’ tournament on Wednesday. As there is such fabulous enthusiasm and talent amongst Solent pupils with regards to the wonderful sport of hockey, we were fortunate to be able to enter two teams. Both teams can be proud of their performance, with the B team narrowly missing out on a bronze medal and the A team being crowned champions.
In the past, Solent have struggled to beat one team in particular: Northern Parade have regularly been awarded first place. It was a nail-biting match yet again against this strong team, concluding with a 1-1 draw. Solent then had to ensure they won all their other matches, as they were convinced Northern Parade would not slip up! When the tournament finished, Solent had managed to keep a clean score sheet with the exception of conceding one phenomenal goal from none other than their own B team! With Northern parade winning all their other matches, it was necessary to calculate both teams’ goal differences. Incredibly, both teams’ goal differences were identical so it was decided that both teams could be crowned champions.
