On 6th May, two teams of Solent upper school tag rugby players eagerly arrived at the United Services pitches ready to put their training to the test against several other Portsmouth Schools.  Fortunately, the Solent teams were put into different pools so that they wouldn’t be required to play each other unless qualifying for the last four.  Both teams performed incredibly well.  Solent B had a mix of wins, draws and losses but even their losses were only by a narrow margin.  Solent A were delighted to beat all the teams in their pool and so they knew they’d qualified for the semi-finals.  Although the semis proved to be a tense match, Solent secured a win and a place in the finals against Wimborne.  Despite the fact that the Solent B team were not in medal contention, they provided welcome support in the form of loud cheering from the side-line; this spurred on the A team players and helped to secure a 5-2 win victory for Solent.  The team now look forward to representing Portsmouth at the Hampshire games in June.

Lower School Tag Rugby – Silver Medallists

On Wednesday 4th May 2016, two tag rugby teams competed in a tournament at the Goals Centre on the Eastern Road.  Both teams performed well and were a real credit to the school, demonstrating a sporting attitude and real enthusiasm for the game.  One Solent team came away with silver medals, having won the majority of their games, and admitting a narrow defeat against Mayville.  Well done Solent!

Delighted and Proud: Victory for Solent

Delighted and Proud: Victory for Solent

On Thursday 17th March 2016, a team of year 5/6 tag rugby players arrived at the United Services Pitches, full of aspiration and excitement.

The children didn’t know how tough the competition would be but were delighted to achieve a convincing victory in their first match, with some fabulous team work and bursts of talent and energy which resulted in some inspiring tries.

After three more matches, all of which had resulted in victory, the team knew that they had made the semi-final.  It was a nail-biting semi-final but the team kept their nerve and won the match which put them through to the final.  With legs like jelly, Miss Smith and several parent supporters watched as an incredibly close match was played out in front of them.  When the final whistle blew, the score was announced as 5-3 to Solent and the team (and Miss Smith) could no longer contain their cheers of delight.  As the trophy was awarded to team captain Tom Hutson, the incredible news was announced that not only had Solent won the Portsmouth tournament, but that they would be going on to represent Portsmouth in the Hampshire Games, which will take place on Thursday 30th June in Aldershot.
